[9:45:22 pm]commonlyclever:hi there.

[9:46:12 pm]commonlyclever:up for chatting a bit with an (overzealous) admirer?

[9:46:13 pm]sf_bike_girl:hello

[9:46:22 pm]sf_bike_girl:that's sweet

[9:46:49 pm]commonlyclever:yah, I'm sorry about the email earlier, my bad side can be unrestrained in its curiosity sometimes =/

[9:47:46 pm]sf_bike_girl:well thanks, it was more of a helpfull hint. We don't want you running all over OKC upsetting the ladies

[9:49:24 pm]commonlyclever:is that "We" in the royal sense? it's true I've had that effect, but almost always unintentionally, I swear

[9:50:10 pm]sf_bike_girl:I really was not that upset but I think some could have been really put off

[9:52:09 pm]commonlyclever:I'm glad you weren't. So, what made you decide to go back to school, if you don't mind my asking?

[9:52:49 pm]sf_bike_girl:Grey cube, grey building unimportant work could not see myself doing that till I retire or win the lotto

[9:53:57 pm]commonlyclever:yah, I hear ya. Why psychology though?

[9:54:22 pm]sf_bike_girl:Love it, the human is such an interesting subject

[9:55:49 pm]commonlyclever:Complex for sure. Are you looking to segwey into another field (as many do with that), or probably practice yourself?

[9:57:24 pm]commonlyclever:I say that because both my brother and sister-in-laws have psyc undergrads but entered other fields after..

[9:57:42 pm]sf_bike_girl:I really would like to teach at a university and do research

[9:59:06 pm]commonlyclever:Ph.d then?

[9:59:14 pm]sf_bike_girl:looks that way...

[10:00:25 pm]commonlyclever:oh. so are you in a postgrad program now, or in undergrad?

[10:01:36 pm]sf_bike_girl:Gosh I wish, long story but finishing my BA, long ago I left school for the dot.com boom, never went back kind of thing.

[10:03:50 pm]commonlyclever:hmm, I can perhaps understand. I just got back into school after chasing a dream myself. In some ways it's actually good not to have finished, if you're committed long-term though. You can't get back into some undergrad programs once you have a first degree some places

[10:04:53 pm]sf_bike_girl:Oh yes, a few of my friends have the same issue

[10:07:31 pm]commonlyclever:really? also dot-commers?

[10:08:22 pm]sf_bike_girl:some yes most of them just want to do a change and are stuck

[10:09:52 pm]commonlyclever:yah, tough market.

[10:10:26 pm]sf_bike_girl:very

[10:12:41 pm]commonlyclever:Actually that raises another question-- what jobs are out there for coders (I'm assuming most of the dot-com people) besides software and maybe teaching? Not like it translates into much else, no?

[10:13:37 pm]sf_bike_girl:I am not sure depends what platform you are coding on. I myself am not a coder

[10:16:37 pm]commonlyclever:ah. well coder or not, the ones with grades can at least do grad school. I was a good student but stayed in despite being unmotivated and missed the cutoff.

[10:17:36 pm]commonlyclever:not that I mean to complain, I have open doors, just takes more time I guess

[10:17:47 pm]sf_bike_girl:I hear you

[10:18:33 pm]commonlyclever:So what'd you do in those "grey buildings"... anything interesting?

[10:18:56 pm]sf_bike_girl:HR and Project Management

[10:20:06 pm]commonlyclever:well that's transferrable at least.

[10:20:50 pm]sf_bike_girl:yes

[10:22:05 pm]commonlyclever:So...social life: have you been married before? have kids?

[10:23:17 pm]sf_bike_girl:was married, no kids 3 years ago

[10:24:14 pm]commonlyclever:hm. never married myself.

[10:25:42 pm]commonlyclever:still there?

[10:25:48 pm]sf_bike_girl:yep.

[10:26:01 pm]commonlyclever:want to voice-chat?

[10:26:17 pm]commonlyclever:(can i call you, I mean...)

[10:26:25 pm]sf_bike_girl:kind of multi tasking - sorry. I really should crack the books

[10:26:32 pm]commonlyclever:yah ok

[10:26:43 pm]commonlyclever:same =/

[10:26:54 pm]sf_bike_girl:ok have a nice night

[10:27:09 pm]commonlyclever:you too. nice talking with you

[10:27:34 pm]sf_bike_girl:enjoy reading

[10:27:50 pm]commonlyclever:thx. I have a lot of it

[9:40:52 pm]sanfranep:you're my first

[9:41:13 pm]commonlyclever:your first?! ;-O

[9:41:20 pm]sanfranep:hah!

[9:41:39 pm]commonlyclever:one sec I'm trying to make this tiny window bigger..

[9:41:55 pm]sanfranep:so what are you up to?

[9:42:17 pm]commonlyclever:not much. sorry about that. how are you?

[9:42:22 pm]sanfranep:no prob.

[9:42:24 pm]sanfranep:good.

[9:42:37 pm]sanfranep:I am plotting out my weekend and I'm getty pretty excited

[9:42:42 pm]sanfranep:Its been a crazy week!

[9:42:53 pm]commonlyclever:yah, how so?

[9:43:12 pm]sanfranep:well, I had to deal with labor strikes in bangladesh

[9:43:17 pm]sanfranep:not personally but for work

[9:43:44 pm]commonlyclever:i c. not exactly run-of-the-mill for most people, no?

[9:43:56 pm]sanfranep:i do garment production and I get to deal with a lot of nonsense from around the world

[9:44:07 pm]sanfranep:Yeah, I know. I'm not a run of the mill kind of girl:)

[9:44:23 pm]sanfranep:other than that I am helping a friend out who is doing a charity fundraiser

[9:44:31 pm]sanfranep:ton of fun, just a lot of work

[9:44:37 pm]commonlyclever:hmm. yah your profile agrees.

[9:44:55 pm]sanfranep:Yeah, my profile is pretty much me - 100%

[9:44:59 pm]commonlyclever:is that your weekend plans? what kind of charity

[9:45:28 pm]sanfranep:my friend is doing a fund raiser for the american cancer society

[9:45:40 pm]sanfranep:its not this weekend - but we're doing a pow wow on Sunday

[9:46:03 pm]commonlyclever:i c ...and in the industry do you have more creative names for 'sweatshops'? =/

[9:46:08 pm]sanfranep:My fun plans are hopefully to go out and grab a drink either on Fri or Sat

[9:46:15 pm]sanfranep:ouch

[9:46:28 pm]commonlyclever:meh, sorry. a bit jades =/

[9:46:30 pm]sanfranep:we try to avoid sweatshops

[9:46:34 pm]commonlyclever:jaded*

[9:46:42 pm]sanfranep:they're so hot when we go visit

[9:46:51 pm]sanfranep:yeah you're jaded, but that's okay I kind of like it

[9:46:56 pm]sanfranep:i love sarcasm

[9:47:02 pm]commonlyclever:thx =)

[9:47:11 pm]sanfranep:Seriously though, most of my factories are pretty up and up

[9:47:25 pm]sanfranep:I work for Gap (who doesn't in this town) and we try to be socially responsible

[9:47:28 pm]sanfranep:sometimes. . .

[9:47:49 pm]sanfranep:so how do you like SF

[9:48:02 pm]commonlyclever:"try" being the operative word =/

[9:48:15 pm]sanfranep:that's right

[9:48:18 pm]commonlyclever:I'm loving it, actually. So far it's been a blasT!

[9:48:31 pm]sanfranep:that's cool. I LOVE SF!

[9:48:39 pm]commonlyclever:people here seem to 'get it' more

[9:48:42 pm]commonlyclever:=D

[9:48:46 pm]sanfranep:exactly

[9:49:07 pm]sanfranep:or if they don't get it they are good at pretending

[9:49:10 pm]sanfranep::)

[9:49:18 pm]commonlyclever:trust me, I used to live in this epitome of a blue state city...

[9:49:24 pm]commonlyclever:lol

[9:49:25 pm]sanfranep:really?

[9:49:27 pm]sanfranep:where?

[9:49:56 pm]commonlyclever:Colorado Springs... but I'm not exactly fond of talking about it. Let's back to SF maybe?

[9:50:07 pm]sanfranep:i hear you

[9:50:11 pm]sanfranep:I'm from Texas

[9:50:12 pm]commonlyclever:(bad memories)

[9:50:20 pm]sanfranep:try having that be your homestate

[9:50:29 pm]sanfranep:So what do you like to do in SF?

[9:50:42 pm]commonlyclever:heh. nice. Yah that's an entirely different kind of state altogether, for sure

[9:50:57 pm]sanfranep:yup. Some people even call it a separate country. . .

[9:51:00 pm]sanfranep:lol!!

[9:51:37 pm]commonlyclever:yah I'm def. not one of them. Bigger, maybe, but not better.

[9:51:53 pm]sanfranep:that is so true about so many things:)

[9:52:16 pm]commonlyclever:rofl?

[9:52:39 pm]commonlyclever:where in TX by the way, and what brought ya out here?

[9:52:41 pm]sanfranep:sorry, couldn't help myself! it was easy. . .

[9:52:57 pm]commonlyclever:-.-

[9:53:01 pm]sanfranep:I am from Austin and came out here for my job 6 years ago

[9:53:30 pm]sanfranep:what made you pick SF?

[9:54:09 pm]commonlyclever:I got accepted into grad school here and liked the atmosphere.

[9:54:23 pm]sanfranep:that's cool. This city does have a great atmosphere

[9:54:52 pm]sanfranep:how do you like grad school so far? I'm toying with the idea of going back to school

[9:56:16 pm]commonlyclever:I like it so far, though if you're gainfully employed and liking it I wouldn't quickly advise jumping off... probably better talking than texting about it.

[9:56:34 pm]sanfranep:that's fair

[9:56:53 pm]sanfranep:I love my job, even more so now that the economy is in the toliet

[9:57:06 pm]sanfranep:what are your plans this weekend? Anything fun?

[9:57:20 pm]commonlyclever:well that's good.

[9:58:20 pm]commonlyclever:no social plans yet, but I have a midterm on Saturday and might go out with friends after if we feel up to it. Then again, they've bailed on me before, so I dunno

[9:58:36 pm]sanfranep:good luck on your midterm

[9:58:44 pm]sanfranep:i hope your friends don't bail on you!

[9:59:02 pm]commonlyclever:heh, thx. I'll do fine I think ;)

[9:59:12 pm]sanfranep:i'm sure you will:)

[9:59:28 pm]commonlyclever:oh really?

[9:59:56 pm]commonlyclever:...

[10:00:03 pm]sanfranep:well. . .so far you seem pretty intelligent to me. So I'm hoping you'll do okay on your midterm

[10:00:15 pm]sanfranep:as to having fun. If there is a will there is always a way:)

[10:00:33 pm]commonlyclever:true =)

[10:00:44 pm]commonlyclever:so where do you usually go drinking?

[10:00:45 pm]sanfranep:its worked for me on many occasions

[10:00:50 pm]commonlyclever:have a planned spot yet?

[10:01:17 pm]sanfranep:I like to go to Hotel Biron in Hayes and I'm a sucker for La Trappe in North beach

[10:01:32 pm]sanfranep:Depends on my mood and who I'm with. Beer drinkers love La Trappe

[10:01:39 pm]sanfranep:and my wino friends are all about Hotel Biron

[10:01:47 pm]sanfranep:no spot set as yet

[10:02:25 pm]commonlyclever:yah I don't really get how people identify themselves that way. i'm clearly not an 'either-or' alcoholic consumer...

[10:02:43 pm]sanfranep:me either, but some of my friends are

[10:02:57 pm]sanfranep:I'm good for anything as long as the place is cool without being trendy

[10:03:35 pm]commonlyclever:I'll take 'trendy', just not 'over-priced'

[10:03:36 pm]commonlyclever:

[10:03:37 pm]commonlyclever:=/

[10:03:53 pm]sanfranep:yeah, but typically trendy and overpriced are good buddies:)

[10:04:09 pm]commonlyclever:yes.

[10:04:31 pm]sanfranep:I'm just not a hipster or a marina chick so I like a place that is cool but not a weird scene.

[10:05:05 pm]commonlyclever:really? what's 'weird' for you?

[10:05:10 pm]sanfranep:hm. . .

[10:05:41 pm]sanfranep:i guess someplace like "the Matrix" on Fillmore

[10:05:45 pm]commonlyclever:the underground clubs? castro?

[10:05:54 pm]sanfranep:nah, underground clubs are fine

[10:06:09 pm]sanfranep:and I like the castro - the pilsner is one of my faves

[10:06:14 pm]commonlyclever:hmm, haven't been to 'Matrix'... like the movie?

[10:06:18 pm]sanfranep:great backyard patio area

[10:06:30 pm]sanfranep:No this matrix is far less cool

[10:06:42 pm]commonlyclever:I'm a fan of patios...

[10:07:03 pm]commonlyclever:quiet and uncrowded ones, at lesat...

[10:07:04 pm]sanfranep:imagine bitchy blondes with fake boobs and jocks who have an iq of 30

[10:07:19 pm]sanfranep:i love patios too. Especially in the sun:)

[10:07:25 pm]sanfranep:What is this lestat?

[10:07:35 pm]commonlyclever:ah. yah, superficiality = buzz kill

[10:07:41 pm]sanfranep:no joke!

[10:07:47 pm]sanfranep:i like people who are real.

[10:07:54 pm]sanfranep:good or bad - just be honest

[10:08:15 pm]commonlyclever:lesat = "least". can't type without hitting trackpad =/

[10:08:23 pm]sanfranep:ahhh

[10:08:28 pm]sanfranep:i get it!

[10:08:38 pm]commonlyclever:;)

[10:08:56 pm]sanfranep:I'm pretty bad at typing myself

[10:09:10 pm]sanfranep:yeah, but for the most part I'm comfortable anywhere in the city

[10:09:18 pm]sanfranep:as long as its fun

[10:09:51 pm]commonlyclever:so what's your number? would you be interested in getting a drink Sat.?

[10:10:31 pm]commonlyclever:or chatting more? I feel like IM'ing you can find out some things, but it can be misleading as well sometimes

[10:10:34 pm]sanfranep:I'm totally open on Sat. My # is 415-264-7589. I'm heading to bed soon (lame I know) but call me

[10:10:55 pm]sanfranep:Yeah, I like IM but it can take a long time to get to know someone:)

[10:11:07 pm]commonlyclever:yes.

[10:11:28 pm]sanfranep:okay, well I'm going to sign off, but call me

[10:11:40 pm]commonlyclever:will do. sec, phone was off

[10:11:48 pm]sanfranep:cool

[10:12:41 pm]sanfranep:Have a good night:)

[10:12:50 pm]commonlyclever:=)

NoteMap® Legal Outline Software

A little (mostly) pro-Comcast story (because there are probably so few out there...):

Soo I was expecting the worst: Though promised a "year" of free HBO, extended cable, and DVR I found out that my bill had gone up after only the 2nd month using it. I'm currently six months into the plan, and having been on the auto-payment plan, had already overpaid about ninety bucks (yah, I'm that bad at tracking my budget). When I called to switch my bill I figured I'd get some bullshit about not being able to change things, yadda yadda, but actually, honesty turned out to work for once.
First of all, their explanation seemed to check out. The technicians had apparently installed a DVR box better than the one for the free plan (HD-capable, which I didn't use anyways), and it was caught by audits in the second month. Looking back at the lines on my bill seems to support this.

What astounded me was their offer: since the technician acknowledged it was their mistake, they were able to reverse the difference for the entire month and credit me for the next three months (I asked for six, but I was happy to take three after expecting zilch). In any case, my semester will be up then and who knows where I'll be.

Just wanted to briefly plug good customer service. Total time spent: about an hour (multitasking).
